Our CID LINES office in Ieper is currently looking for a Legal Counsel – Animal Health.
Job description
Primary Role & Key Responsibilities:
This professional will act as Legal Counsel for our global division Animal Health (“AH”) headquartered in Ieper, Belgium, and will be responsible for managing the delivery of legal services. The reporting line will be directly to the head of the European Law Department based in Monheim, Germany, and the dotted reporting line will be to VP Finance – Global Animal Health.
The successful candidate will be responsible for legal advice, drafting and negotiating agreements with our distribution partners around the world, direct selling agreements as well as contractor agreements and procurement agreements and related documentation. Other responsibilities include providing legal advice to AH management and legal oversight of competition law, claims, employment law, and other legal issues affecting AH operations.
The successful candidate will add significant value not only in the day-to-day legal support to AH, but also in managing risk in a business-oriented way enabling growth and ensuring the cost- effective use of external legal services where needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Structure, negotiate and draft agreements with our distributors and end customers.
- Provide legal advice and services for supply contracts.
- Act as a business counselor and strategic advisor to the AH leadership team on commercial and regulatory matters.
- Manage disputes and litigation to achieve a practical and cost-effective result.
- Assist as needed on acquisitions, particularly in the due diligence and integration process.
- Advise business and compliance team on legal risk and ethical compliance
- Manage outside legal counsel to ensure value is provided on a cost-effective basis.
- Control and update legal and corporate documentation.
- Coordinate with the head of the European Law Department as well as attorneys based in the US or in the regions to align on objectives and practices.
Profile
Academic Experience:
- Excellent academic credentials, including qualification to practice law.
- Additional law qualification in another jurisdiction are desirable but not required.
Experience / knowledge:
- Dutch and English business-level fluency required.
- Further languages desirable but not required.
- You have at least 6 years of commercial law experience working in-house with a multinational corporation and/or in a law firm.
- Relevant experience in structuring, negotiating and documenting commercial transactions.
- Ability to command the respect of, and communicate effectively with, a diverse range of business partners and partners within the Law Department.
- Ability to direct and manage outside counsel to achieve cost-efficient results.
- Dispute resolution experience desirable but not required.

- Possesses business and financial acumen, with the ability to balance commercial and legal considerations and explain complex legal points to business leaders.
- Engenders the confidence of business leaders in identifying legal risk and recommending a course of action.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Skilled negotiator, whether on a commercial transaction or in settling a dispute.
